Earth Day Music Fest 2010

Posted on Wednesday, 21st April, 2010

I recently returned home from an exciting journey. Compassion Music hosted the 3rd Annual ‘Earth Day Music Fest’ in Myrtle Beach, SC. First of all, I have to give an extra special ‘shout out’ and ‘thanks’ to Curtis Freeman. He is a co-founder with Compassion Music and is the actual “founder” of the Earth Day Music Fest movement.

This event had more people in attendance than any prior year. Vendors were lined up for what seemed like a 1/2 mile. The bands were fantastic and included mostly local talent and a few traveling artists. The line-up was: Bullfrog (Local), Jordan Loder (Acoustic Reggae from Cali), Sai Collins and the Getaway Drivers (Wilmington), Sideways Derby (Local), Ten Toes Up (Local), Lyndsay Wojcik (Asheville, NC), Ras Bonghi Reggae All-Stars (Charleston).

Compassion Music set up a tent next to the stage and set out on a mission. Two Compassion Music artists (Forget Reason and Soul Faction) gave away hundreds of CD’s to raise money for non-profit organization LOVE146 (www.love146.com)

The official Earth Day Music Fest website is here: www.earthdaymusicfest.com

All-in-All, this was a successful event. We received amazing feedback from event attendees, the media, the bands and the vendors, who said this event brought a much needed dose of culture back into Myrtle Beach and helped raise awareness about ‘real’ social issues. Even the town of Myrtle Beach wants us back next year. I’m looking forward to hearing more stories and seeing the IMPACT we can make next year!!
